How Can I Keep From Singing?

How Can I Keep From Singing? Virtual Project

Here are all the details for Stage 1 of our virtual project.

This is an audio only project to begin with so all of the requirements we have had with previous projects are no longer required (like make sure it is landscape and dress code etc). There are, however, some other things you need to make sure you do...

1. You need to make sure your page turns are really quiet as audio recorders are much more sensitive than video ones.
2. You need to make sure whatever device you record yourself on that it doesn't peak at all so listening back to your recording and ensuring there are no points where the sound is muffled is really important.
3. You need to make sure you are standing far enough away from your device that it isn't too loud but also not too far that it is too quiet!
4. When you finish your recording just leave it running for a few seconds so there is about 5 - 10 seconds of silence.
5. You can record your audio on most half decent phones or tablets or if you have any other form of recording equipment then you can use that. Ideally sending the file in MP3 format would be best but we can work with whatever you do.

I have produced guide tracks that you will have to plug your headphones in to to sing along to. It is really important that you do the four claps at the beginning as well. Don't have the track too loud, make sure you can hear yourself as well as the track. Here they are:
Note to all Sopranos:
1. If anyone would like to be considered to do part of the beginning solo then please let me know by emailing me asap. I would like to share it up and have a few soloists doing small chunks of it. For all sopranos not wishing to do a solo at the beginning please don't sing the opening verse when you record yourselves.
2. Don't sing the highest notes on the last page that are slightly smaller than the others, this obviously applies to the 1st sops only. If you are unsure what notes to sing then ask me in a rehearsal.

Make sure you practice through with these lots of times to get used to the tempo changes and make sure you feel confident with your part before recording yourself.

Who do I send my recording to?
As the file sizes will be a lot smaller than the videos you might have tried to send before, they should fit in a normal email so please send them over to Dave Wilkins with your full name and voice part. Please send them to the following email address: info@waltonvoices.co.uk.

The deadline for sending over your recording of "How Can I Keep From Singing?" is midnight on the 12th March. I will aim to master all of the audio and hopefully be able to share with you at our penultimate or last rehearsal of the term.

If you have any questions about this project then please feel free to ask me in the break of our rehearsal either this week or next. If you have missed a rehearsal where I have explained what we are aiming to do for this project then take a look at this example by The Sixteen - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAbAtsaApZk&t=2s  - enjoy!

What Our Singers Are Saying:

“When I decided to join the choir I hadn't sung for many years. But it was really easy to join, no auditions, and lots of help to learn the music. “I feel privileged to be able to take part in singing the choral classics that are part of our repertoire. As well as making new friends, I am singing music I love, brushing up on long idle sight reading skills and finding out about my community from long-time local residents."
