About us

Picture

Walton Voices is a welcoming, inclusive community choir based in Walton‑on‑Thames, bringing singers together for nearly a century. We are proud of our long choral heritage and equally proud of the vibrant, modern ensemble we are today — open to all, rooted in our community, and passionate about making music that inspires.

A Choir with History — and a Contemporary Voice

Our story began in the 1930s, when we were founded as the Walton & Oatlands Choral Society. Over the decades, the choir grew, evolved, and embraced new musical traditions. As our identity broadened and our membership expanded, we adopted a new name — Walton Voices — reflecting a more modern, inclusive, community‑focused choir.
Today, under the musical direction of Jonathan Kilhams, we continue to build on that legacy with energy, ambition, and a commitment to high‑quality choral singing.

A Rich and Varied Musical Life

Walton Voices performs a wide range of repertoire and engages in musical activity that reflects both tradition and innovation. Our seasons typically include:
  • Choral classics from the great composers
  • Modern and contemporary works by living composers and arrangers
  • Seasonal concerts that bring audiences together
  • Workshops and learning days to develop vocal skill and confidence
  • Collaborations with local choirs, schools, orchestras, and ensembles
  • Community performances celebrating local partnerships
  • Tours and away‑day singing that strengthen friendships and broaden experience

This variety keeps our musical life fresh, ambitious, and open to new ideas.

Music with Purpose
We believe in using music to make a difference. Many of our performances support local charities, community organisations, and good causes, helping raise both funds and awareness. Singing together is a powerful way to connect people — not just as performers and audiences, but as neighbours and citizens.

A Choir for Everyone

Walton Voices welcomes singers of all backgrounds and abilities. There are no auditions, and you don’t need to read music fluently — just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. Our rehearsals are friendly, supportive, and full of energy, with learning resources available to help every member grow.
Members often tell us they join for the music but stay for the community. Walton Voices is a place to connect, to laugh, to learn, and to experience the joy of singing together.

Looking Ahead

As we move forward, Walton Voices continues to embrace new music, new collaborations, and new ways to share our sound. Our future is shaped by creativity, inclusivity, and a commitment to keeping choral singing alive and thriving in our community.
Whether you last sang at school or you’ve been performing for years, Walton Voices offers a warm welcome and a chance to be part of something special.

What Our Singers Are Saying:

“When I decided to join the choir I hadn't sung for many years. But it was really easy to join, no auditions, and lots of help to learn the music. “I feel privileged to be able to take part in singing the choral classics that are part of our repertoire. As well as making new friends, I am singing music I love, brushing up on long idle sight reading skills and finding out about my community from long-time local residents."
